Red Deer Hospice Receives Accreditation Primer Award

Red Deer Hospice is pleased to announce they have recently achieved Accreditation Primer status, awarded by Accreditation Canada.

After preparing for two years, staff, board members, residents and families were interviewed on-site at Red Deer Hospice by Accreditation Canada Surveyors in October. The evaluation covered areas of Hospice’s strategic planning, service delivery, communications, human resources, ethics and risk management.

Hospice recently received a detailed report from Accreditation Canada, which stated the organization had scored 99%. “Achieving a near-perfect score confirms we have very high standards when it comes to the care of our residents,” said Jerri Taylor, Hospice’s Executive Director. “Every day, we live our mission of providing a peaceful and compassionate end-of-life journey.”

The Accreditation Primer was the organization’s first step in their accreditation journey. It allowed Hospice to identify areas of improvement and familiarize themselves with the process before they begin the full accreditation program, called Qmentum, in 2025.

I am very proud of the entire team and the hard work they put into this,” said Hospice Board Chair, Candace Spurrell. “When you see the Accreditation Canada Primer seal, residents and families can be certain that everyone at Red Deer Hospice is working hard to deliver safe and quality care.”
