Each year, Red Deer Hospice hosts our Annual Memorial Butterfly Release Ceremony, a special time for families to gather in remembrance of loved ones who were cared for here. Held in the Healing Garden across the street, this quiet and peaceful space offers families the opportunity to pause, reflect, and honour the memories of those they hold dear.
During the ceremony, families may choose to release painted lady butterflies in remembrance of their loved one. For many, this symbolic moment offers comfort and connection as they continue to navigate life after loss.
The ceremony will take place on Saturday, June 27, 2026, and is a private gathering for families whose loved ones were cared for by Red Deer Hospice in 2024 and 2025. Families are invited to attend for two years following their loved one’s journey here, recognizing that grief and healing take time and that some families may wish to participate when they feel ready.
Invitations and RSVP information are mailed directly to the next of kin listed in our records each spring.
